to the city!

the day after my birthday, i drove down to THE city to check out my new home on 21st and valencia, wearing the ring that melissa made for my birthday present.

abigail wasn’t there when i arrived, so i just wandered around the mission until her return. abigail and i found each other on craigslist and talked several times on the phone and chatted online a little. we got along well and i was looking forward to finally meeting her.
she was just as lovely in person than over the phone. we climbed the three flights of epic stairs to apartment #14.(pictures to follow in succeeding entries)
my room has hardwood floors, and two big windows that look out on a courtyard full of trees!

plus, i have a lovely view into my neighbors’ apartments.

i also have a door that opens to the outside and the (smaller, but twisty) stairwell.

the kitchen has lovely high ceilings that don’t extend into my room as it’s an addition, apparently.

it was a fun adventure, and an emotional day. after so long wanting change and adventure and aspiring to live in san francisco, i’m doing it. as i approached the bridge to enter the city, naive melody (this must be the place) by talking heads came on. this song makes me cry anyway, but in this instance, it was so sweet and so perfect. the lump in my throat welled up with the tears in my eyes.
home. is where i want to be.
feet on the ground. head in the sky. it’s ok. i know nothings wrong.
i’ve got plenty of time. you’ve got light in your eyes.
home is where i want to be. but i guess i’m already there.
i come home. she lifted up her wings. i guess that this must be the place.
if someone asks this is where i’ll be.
