melissa and jesse’s place in sebastopol is the ultimate in rural suburbs of an already small town (pop. 8,000). their little house is a one room affair with a loft and an enormous deck. it sits behind the larger house where friends tasha and brian live. they’ve planted many garden boxes, making a small farm, complete with 6 chickens. they’re growing corn (so delicious and amazingly sweet, no need to cook or season),
melissa and i went to the coast one day and did a writing exercise and saw some sea lions like huge grey slugs on some rocks, far into the ocean.
i visited the sebastopol cemetery, a nice place to be. i’ve never seen so many sandstone looking headstones. it makes the cemetery feel warm and almost welcoming.
it took a while, but our beasts became comfortable with each other. they never played like we wanted them to, but they sniffed and checked each other out, living harmoniously together.
