i am now 27, with a perspective:

when 'blue' was released, joni mitchell was 28.
in 1914, egon schiele had his first solo show in paris. he was 24.
born in 1982:anne hathaway, natalie portman, kirsten dunst, andy roddick, charlie cox, joanna newsom, patrick fugit, prince william.
in 1888, klimt received the golden order of merit from emperor franz josef 1 of austria for his contributions to murals painted in the burgtheater in vienna. he also became an honorary member of the university of munich and the university of vienna. (wikipedia) he was 26.
oprah moved to chicago to host a morning talk show in 1983, the first episode aired in 1984, oprah was 30.
adrian brody became the youngest actor to ever win the 'best actor' academy award. he was 29.

it was this year he decided to give up playing viola in the orchestra to compose. it was also at this time, he fell in love with one of his pupils and wrote the song cycle cypress trees for her. she didn't return his affections and married some one else. so he married her younger sister 5 years later. they had 9 kids.
when michael jackson unveiled 'the moonwalk' in 1983, he was 24.
when radiohead's 'pablo honey' was released, thom yorke was 25.
two years later, (thom: 27) the band released 'the bends'.

cate blanchett was 29 when 'elisabeth' was released, for which she was nominated for an oscar.
at 27, wes anderson released 'bottle rocket', his first film.

  1. oh man. i have a hard time with this too! so many things accomplished at such young ages, it is ridiculous. but then i also think of frank mccourt, who was 66 when angela's ashes was published. and...well, that is the only person i can think of right now. but greatness comes in many shapes and sizes, and is a product of imaginatory genius and also the experience of this crazy beautiful world. neither way is right or wrong. but the pressure is on now that oprah is closing up shop. ;)
