catching up

before the celebration of sully's birthday post, i wrote about the crazy avatar coincidence. i'll pick up this post where that one left off: the fairy tale experiment. first of all, to read about their crazy, wild, amazing adventure, you can read their blog. avatar is trying to keep up as best he can, but the blog has yet to make it to california. the first night, friday the 4th, was when we met avatar and charlotte. (av's big, but charlotte's also a tiny lady. 5'1"? 5'3"? i'm not sure)
they regaled us with tales of their crazy adventure, we laughed and it was lovely. saturday brought erin and rose, the other half of the four, to us. what did we do that day... i can't remember.
that night, we had an amazing dinner: dal in sourdough bread bowls. SO delicious. clockwise from bottom left-charlotte, avatar, emma, ted, rose, erin. i'm standing on a chair to get this picture.
then, we put on some sparkles and took to the streets for a night of busking.
what the sidewalk had to say to us, among other things:

the lovely job that erin did making me a sea fairy. all of us in our makeup was much to the delight of the saturday night bar crowd.
i got to be camera man and met some wonderful characters, as well as enjoyed watching the fairies sing their songs and have a breakthrough of understanding as a group. it was awesome.

sunday erin, avatar and i went down to fisherman's wharf to scope out some more performance spots while charlotte and rose went down to half moon bay to rescue lunette.
on the waterfront, we discovered musee mecanique, much to our delight. i've been reading about these machines that are hand-cranked and allow you to see a scene as a series of pictures are rotated and shown in flip book animation style. i want to make one.

we wandered. ate dinner and came back home.
the haircut erin gave me before the bbq:

monday, with lunette returned, we drove her to the outer sunset to a bbq hosted by old friends of charlotte's dad. they were lovely, their house beautiful and literally across the street from the ocean.
singing 'the obama song' at the bbq:

erin (in the middle ground) and i on the beach.
erin and i rode the tram home (my first tram ride).
the fairies had wanted to come back and meet up again, but they've now left to somewhere fabulous and i did not get to see them again.
i will remember their visit as full of laughter, love, singing, cooking, hair cutting, jeremy irons and breasts.
it was an adventure just having them here and i'm so grateful that they came to stay.
this is where the kitties were, for the most part, during the visit of the fairies. i made this little hiding place for them under my desk:

love love love the fairies.
